Personal Care Assistants

Personal Care Assistants (PCA) assist clients with health care needs, activities of daily living under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Obtain data regarding the physical and mental status of the client (i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, changes in behavior)
  • Report changes to the family and the RN/LPN.
  • Assist the client with personal and social tasks including: shaving, shampoo, hair grooming, mouth and dental care, nail care (may not cut nails).
  • Assist with toileting.
  • Assist with dressing.
  • Assist with ambulation, including walker, cane, braces, or wheelchair when necessary.
  • perform transfers.
  • Promote emotional and psychological support to client and family.
  • prepare meals following pecial diets when indicated for client.
  • Perform light housekeeping
  • Escort client to medical appointments
